Nadal demolishes Tsitsipas to reach the Australian Open final in style

Nadal beats Stefanos in straight sets after playing a remarkable match

Rafael Nadal in the AO final

What a match from Rafael Nadal! The Spaniard plays fantastic tennis to demolish Stefanos Tsitsipas 6-2 6-4 6-0.

The match

Tsitsipas started with an extremely strong hold at 15 and then… game over! Rafa won 6 of the following 7 games to conquer the opener with a solid 6-2 scoreline.

The first part of the second set was the only moment when there was a sort of equilibrium, at least until Stefanos was leading 4-3 (on serve). Then it was just about Nadal that conquered the following 9 games before winning the match 6-2 6-4 6-0 in just 1 hour and 46 minutes.

What really happened?

Once Mike Tyson said: “Everyone has a plan until they get punched in the mouth.” This is what happened to Stefanos Tsitsipas. He simply devised a plan that didn’t work because Rafa was just too good. Probably next time Stefanos needs to take better care of his service games and play Nadal a bit more on his forehand. But again the world no.2 today was beyond perfection.

I do not want to lose him 10 times

Stefanos has now a 0-3 record against Nadal. The Greek appeared devasted during the press conference to comment

“I’m trying to understand how Federer beat him so many times when he has a game style like me. I don’t want to lose to him 10 times.”

Rafa will face either Novak Djokovic or Lucas Pouille in the final. If fit, he is definitely the favorite to win the Australian Open. Fantastic!
