Karolina wins an impossible match in the Australian Open quarters against Serena Williams

Karolina PLiskova beats Serena Williams

Incredible stuff at the Australian Open as Karolina Pliskova upsets Serena Williams after winning an impossible battle on Wednesday.

The match

This contest went through 3 different and very distinctive moments. In the 1st stint, the Czech looked to be in full control of the match after she was 1 set and 1 break up (6-4 3-2). Then (2nd stint) it was time for the American to storm back “Serena’s way” to win 9 of the following 11 games and grab what seemed to be an unassailable 4-6 6-4 5-1 lead.

The injury

Later (3rd stint) something incredible happened on Serena’s matchpoint while she was leading 40-30: the American got injured to her left ankle, and everything changed. Pliskova managed to break back (5-2), hold her following game (5-3), and break Serena at love (5-4). The Czech was in deep trouble soon after to save 2 consecutive match points when she was 15-40 and another one soon after before holding her serve (5-5). Again, Serena lost her serve at love (!!!) in the following game (5-6), and Pliskova managed to hold her serve to win one of the most memorable matches of her great career.

The final score was 6-4 4-6 7-5, and the match ended after 2 hours and 10 minutes.
