Naomi Osaka is on her way to grab the top spot of the rankings.
Currently ranked no.4, the Japanese has just reached the semifinal in Melbourne after she defeated Elina Svitolina. This means that she is the world no.1 in terms of live rankings at the moment.
How Osaka will be world no.1 AFTER the Australian Open.
Naomi is competing for the top spot against Petra Kvitova and Karolina Pliskova.
If Kvitova loses in the other semifinal against Danielle Collins and Pliskova loses to Serena Williams in the quarters, Osaka will grab the top spot of the rankings after the Australian Open.
Another (extremely improbable) scenario for Naomi to get the top of the rankings if the Japanese loses in the semifinal is that Danielle Collins beats Pliskova in the Melbourne final.
It seems that Naomi needs to go “the hard way” and win the Australian Open to be sure to conquer the top spot. That’s what a world no.1 should do!
