Naomi Osaka is having another inspiring run at a slam.
After winning the US Open, the Japanese sensation was eager to have another good performance at the Australian Open, and she didn’t disappoint. After surviving 2 tough matches against Su-Wei Hsieh and Anastasija Sevastova, Naomi had a smooth contest in the quarters against Elina Svitolina.
The Match
Naomi and Elina engaged in a fierce battle in the first set that ended with 5 consecutive breaks at the end that allowed Osaka to win the opener 6-4.
Unfortunately, it seems that Svitolina was struggling with her body. That was the consequence of a couple of tough matches in the 3rd and 4th round against Shuai Zhang and Madison Keys. Elina was struggling with her neck that is usually an injury that affects key movements like the serve.
Eventually, Naomi took advantage of her superior power and the conditions of her opponent to win 6-4 6-0 in just 72 minutes.
I tried to be as consistent as I can. OSAKA
“I tried to be consistent or as consistent as I can be. She’s really good, but unfortunately, she was injured. But playing against her injured was really tough.
For me today I had one goal, it was to try as hard as I can and not get angry. I didn’t do that well in the past two rounds, but I played well today.”
Naomi will now face either Serena Williams or Karolina Pliskova in the semifinal.
