Naomi Osaka wins another battle at the Australian Open to show her strong nerves again.
The match
The Japanese sensation was opposed to the world no.12 Anastasija Sevastova that has always been a tough opponent for the world no.4. Before this encounter, the H2H between Naomi and the Latvian was 2-all. Therefore Osaka was well aware that an upset was quite possible.
Sevastova started strong winning a break already in the 3rd game (2-1) and that was enough for her to win the opener 6-4. Naomi stormed back in the second set to conquer the decisive break in the 6th game (4-2) before winning 6-3.
The Japanese started strong also in the decider to break Anastasija in the 1st game and consolidate her lead immediately with a good hold (2-0). However, the Latvian didn’t give up, and she broke back in the 6th game (3-3). Naomi impressed again to break back immediately (4-3) and hold her serve in the following game after a big battle. That was enough for Naomi to win the match 4-6 6-3 6-4 in 1 hour and 47 minutes.
