Stefanos Tsitsipas captured the imagination of the tennis fans around the world after an inspiring win over Roger Federer in the 4th round of the Australian Open.
What was exceptional was not only the final result, but the fact that Federer was playing excellent tennis and therefore the 20-year-old upset his childhood idol not because Roger had a bad day, but because he played even better.
Mental toughness was the key to beat Federer. STEFANOS TSITSIPAS
During the press conference following his win, Stefanos commented
“I could have cracked at any moment, but I didn’t because I really wanted it bad. I showed it on the court. Obviously and for sure that mental toughness helped a lot. It could have been a different match if I wouldn’t stand that pressure.”
“For sure. That’s why I’m here,” he said when asked about his intentions “That’s why I’m playing, for the trophy, for the title.”
Talking about clarity, Tsitsipas added
“If I take a decision, I won’t hesitate. That’s pretty much what I’ve changed in my development as a player. I stopped being hesitant on what I’m going to do when the ball is in front of me. I know from the very beginning where I’m going to go, what I’m going to do, what is my plan with that shot. That’s something that I have improved a lot.”
Head to Head Tsitipas vs. Bautista Agut
