On one side of Australia Serena is trashed, on the other Maria Sharapova has a huge win in her first match.
The Russian Beauty defeated Yaroslava Shvedova 6-0 6-1 in just over 1 hour. Maria looked unstoppable from the very beginning to win the opener in just 23 minutes. In the second set Shvedova managed to grab just 1 game… but that was already too late.
Maria: It was a good start
Sharapova was obviously happy for this win “It certainly felt good to start, you know, after not playing a match for a couple of months. Despite all the training, it’s such a different feeling to go out on the court and play in front of, you know, a crowd in an actual match atmosphere.”
Maria will play either Suarez Navarro or Lucic-Baroni in the next round.
