Incredible stuff in Melbourne as Stefanos Tsitsipas beats an in-form Roger Federer after playing a fantastic contest.
The match
Stefanos looked extremely focussed from the very beginning giving the impression that he was quite confident that he could beat the Swiss Maestro. The Greek impressed after he lost the first set following a very long tie-break that Federer won at 11(!!!). In fact, the Greek wasn’t satisfied for just staying with the Maestro for a full set. Instead, he managed to keep his focus and believe in his chances.
Probably the most crucial part of the match was when in the second set the 20-year-old managed to hold 3 extremely long service games (3-3, 4-4, and 5-5) while between Roger was winning his games easily. Eventually, the affair went to the breaker and this time it was Stefanos to win it.
The 3rd set was decided just in the last game when Roger dropped his serve for the first (and only) time in the evening (7-5).
The balance of the match changed completely in the 4th set when the Greek started to look much better than Federer whose forehand was not working anymore. However, the Swiss managed to bring the affair to the breaker, but once again it was Stefanos to win and conquer the most important match of his life.
The final score was 6-7 (11) 7-6 (3) 7-5 7-6 (5) and the match ended after 3 hours and 45 minutes.
