It is not rare that top players chose to play doubles at the beginning of the season to get some practice at the net. This is what Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic are doing in Doha…. and with good results.
Rafa is partnering with his great friend Pico Monaco to win the opener 6-3 6-3 against Bolelli and Leonardo Mayer. The Spaniard has already won 3 titles in doubles in Doha in 2005, 2009 and 2011.
Djokovic teamed up with compatriot Krajinovic to defeat Mutawa and Jaziri 6-4 6-1.
In singles Rafa will play world no. 127 Michael Berrer (H2H 2-0 for Rafa) and Nole will face compatriot Dusan Lajovic
