Sascha Zverev wins an extremely tough 2nd round against his friend Jeremy Chardy at the Australian Open.
The match
When Sascha got a 2-sets-up lead everything was pointing to a good straight sets win for the world no.4. However, things went to a completely different direction when after Chardy won the third set breaking the German twice. Jeremy impressed in the 4th set when he saved a match point in the tiebreak when he was 5-6 down to win 3 consecutive points and bring the affair to the decider.
Zverev managed to regroup in the 5th set, and after getting a strong 5-0 lead, he ended up winning the match 7-6 (5) 6-4 5-7 6-7 (6) 6-1.
It was a high-quality match. ZVEREV
Sascha commented
“I thought the match was very high quality. Jeremy started playing really, really well in the third and fourth.
I knew if I stayed strong if I kept doing what I was doing, get my chances. I actually had my chances in all sets. I just didn’t manage to break. Matches can turn around quickly. I’m just happy to be in the third round.”
Zverev will play the world no. 155 Alex Bolt in the 3rd round. They have never played each other so far.
