Novak Djokovic beats Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in style in what was considered as a tricky 2nd round at the Australian Open.
The match
Novak seems to be rather nervous from the very beginning also because he didn’t have an immaculate H2H record against the Frenchman (16-6). Therefore, the world no.1 was well aware that an upset was even possible.
Nole started pretty well to break the Frenchman in the 4th game of the opening set (3-1). However, Djokovic was broken soon after (3-2), but he found a way to conquer the decisive break in the following game (4-2) before winning the opener 6-3.
There a was a similar roller coaster in the second set. Djokovic broke Tsonga in the 7th game (4-3), but he was unable to serve out the set when leading 5-4 after being broke at love (5-5). Again, Djokovic managed to regroup immediately to break soon after Tsonga (6-5) and win the second set 7-5.
The 3rd set was more “regular,” and it took only 1 break for Djokovic in the 5th game (3-2) to win the set and then the match. The final score was 6-3 7-5 6-4, and the match lasted 2 hours and 4 minutes.
