Nadal : I don’t care about the Davis Cup now

Rafael Nadal is fully committed to his comeback in Abu Dhabi, but he still needs to answer some questions about the Davis Cup controversy.

The Spanish Federation has appointed a female captain for the first time in the Davis Cup history without consulting the players. That move was harshly criticized and it is not clear how to move on especially after Gala Leon Garcia (the captain) didn’t do much to cool down the controversy.

Nadal: Nobody is happy…

Rafa commented “There is a lot of controversy and a lot of people have said things that were completely untrue and it is difficult to say things about that.

But seriously it is not an ideal situation for anybody at the end, because when nobody is happy, when the federation is unhappy with the players, when the players are not happy with the federation, when no one is happy with anyone it becomes more difficult to make the right progress to try and be back in the World Group.”

… I do not care much

Then Rafa added “We don’t have the Davis Cup until July so it is difficult for me to say yes or no because I really don’t know and, now, I really don’t care much. I am worried about other things.

Things don’t look very good – we have a tough rival in what will probably be Russia, but even if it is another we will be outside so it won’t be easy, and even if we play with the best players from our country it will not be an easy confrontation.”

Rafa not expected to play the Davis Cup

Nobody expects Rafa to play the Davis Cup if Gala Leon will still be the captain. In addition the Spaniard doesn’t like to compete in July as this is the best time to spend his vacation in Mallorca. Players like Ferrer, Lopez, Almagro and Bautista-Agut should be more motivated to compete and they are still good to help Spain to get back to the World Group.
