Carlos Alcaraz is well known not only for his fantastic tennis and excellent results but also for his sportsmanship. However, the Spanish sensation lost his cool in the opening match in Madrid when he seemed completely lost against Emil Ruusuvuori. Carlitos eventually won the match 2-6 6-4 6-2, but he regretted showing his frustration.
During the second set of the two-hour, 17-minute match, the World No. 2 lost his temper and threw his racket. Alcaraz apologized and said he didn’t condone such antics during a press conference after the game, citing a “mental stop” as the reason for his actions.
Alcaraz commented: “In that game, I remember I was 30-30 and I missed a return on my second serve that I didn’t touch and another ball that I didn’t touch either. t was a mental stop at a moment that made me throw the racket.”
About his coach’s reaction
Then Carlitos added: “I don’t support that kind of thing, but today it came out, which I regret. I talked about it with Juan Carlos [his coach] and I know that this kind of thing can’t happen. The good thing is that I have rectified and I have continued to be positive. That’s what has made me improve.”
