The American tennis player Coco Gauff has joined a long list of other well-known figures in criticizing the new Twitter guidelines. The freshly released “Twitter Blue” membership plan from Twitter gives users access to special capabilities like the ability to undo tweets, customize the app’s look, and bookmark messages into folders. However, there have been a variety of responses to this new development, particularly from well-known figures in the sports world.

While Novak Djokovic has already joined Twitter Blue, Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer are among those who recently lost their Twitter verification badge. Gauff’s recent response to losing her blue tick is garnering attention in light of this. The young American tennis prodigy recently tweeted that she wasn’t concerned about losing her verification badge and made fun of the “Blue Bird App” in the process.

The social network reserves the verification badge for accounts that have been reviewed. Gauff’s most recent tweet about losing a blue tick might appear unimportant. However, it has raised issues that are part of a bigger discussion about the significance of our social media status. It has happened before that a celebrity’s Twitter verification badge was taken down. Blue ticks from dormant or incomplete accounts have been actively removed by Twitter.

Gauff wrote (and then deleted), “First time logging into Twitter in a couple of weeks… realized my blue check is gone. you’ll have that.
