Jaume Antoni Munar Clar and Thanasi Kokkinakis were part of a rather nasty episode after their match in Madrid.
Thanasi Kokkinakis, an Australian tennis player, is well known among fans for his friendly personality, but on Wednesday, after losing to a Spanish opponent named Jaume Munar, he put that to one side in a heated post-match exchange. Despite having several set points against Munar, who is ranked 88th in the world, Kokkinakis lost the Madrid Open match 7-6 7-6.
What happened?
There was a strong altercation between the two at the net following the ferocious battle was the real story of the see-sawing two hours and 37 minutes.
Kokkinakis became enraged during the first set tiebreak when he thought he saw Munar speaking to his coaches box and pointed it up to chair umpire Mohamed Lahyani. The Australian yelled at Munar, who then remarked that Kokkinakis was talking too much, “Bro, you don’t shut up.”
“Don’t tell me to shut up again,” said Jaume, to which Kokkinakis replied: “Or what? I wasn’t angry at you. I was talking to him (umpire Lahyani),” Kokkinakis replied, explaining he didn’t tell him to shut up.”
“You said I was saying something to my team, and I didn’t,” said Munar.
