WRIST INJURY. Emma Raducanu withdraws from the Madrid Open

Emma Raducanu is not fit to compete in Madrid. Will she undergo surgery to fix her issue with her wrist?

Emma Raducanu Wrist Injury

There is bad news from Emma Raducanu, who had to withdraw from the WTA 1000 tournament in Madrid. The 2021 U.S. Open champion has been struggling for many months with a wrist injury, and it seems almost inevitable that she will have to go for surgery since the issue is not going away. Emma was meant to play against Tomova with the world number one Iga Swiatek on her way in the second round.

Emma looked not herself at the pre-tournament press conference when she was practically refusing to answer questions. Not playing in Madrid means that Raducanu will crash out of the top 100.

What about surgery?

Since the injury is persistent, it seems more and more likely that Raducanu will decide to have an operation. Unfortunately, this is the wrong moment to stay away from the tour, but at least she is under percent sure that if she will be operated now she will be fully fit in 2024.
