Stefanos Tsitspas has just started his Australian Open campaign and he had already the full support of the Greek fans in Melbourne in his 1st (and tough) round against Matteo Berrettini.
The world no.15 was elated after defeating the Italian with the help of his compatriots and he is looking forward to having the same support in the second round against Viktor Troicki.
Why Stefanos Tsitsipas loves the Greek community in Melbourne
During a recent interview, Stefanos commented
“Melbourne is the city with the third biggest Greek population, after Athens and Salonika. You get it like this in no other place. I have some second cousins here on my Dad’s side, whom I get to see only when I am in Australia. I hope they will be here. My Dad will arrange something for them.
It’s a tournament that has a big importance to me, with a Greek community and the Greek audience, it makes it even more exciting. I love the weather, I love the people, I love the food, I love the lifestyle. I want to do well here. I haven’t had the opportunity to do my best in Australia yet, but I’m excited.”
