Andy Murray has shocked everyone when on Friday he announced his imminent retirement following his hip problems.
The Brit has become an icon for British Tennis with his 3 slams (2 Wimbledons), 2 Gold Olympic Medals, 1 Davis Cup and the title in conquered at the ATP Finals back in 2016 when he also ended the year as world no.1.
About the statue of Andy Murray to gracing Wimbledon
Wimbledon chief executive Richard Lewis during an interview with the BBC conformed the intention of adorning Wimbledon with a statue of Andy Murray that will match the Fred Perry’s one.
Lewis commented
“For sure, I don’t think there’s any doubt about that. We always felt that when Andy retired, that would be the appropriate time to recognise his extraordinary career.
I am sure something like that will be done, but meanwhile down at the club he is seen as a highly respected person both on and off the court. We are very fond of him and he is a great person to have around the club.”
