Carlos Alcaraz disclosed that immediately before his 2022 Barcelona Open semifinal, he went down the stairs. Alcaraz defeated Pablo Carreno Busta in the final match to win his first Barcelona championship last year. Alcaraz had to play two matches that day in Barcelona since the rain forced the postponement of his semifinal match against Alex de Minaur from the originally scheduled Saturday to the new date.

Alcaraz had a health scare before defeating de Minaur and Carreno Busta, though. Alcaraz believed he wouldn’t be able to play in his Barcelona semifinal because of his discomfort.

“I was about to warm up before the semifinal on Sunday, it was suspended, you know the semifinal on Saturday. Yeah, I was going down the stairs and fell down from the stairs a little bit. I couldn’t warm up. I couldn’t finish the warm-up on court and it was a tough moment for me because I thought that I was not able to play the semifinal and to get through that, it was tough for me,” Alcaraz commented.
