
The Italian world number 22 Matteo Berrettini announced his withdrawal from the Madrid Open on Friday as he battles an abdominal injury. Last week, Berrettini withdrew from the Monte Carlo Masters due to discomfort. It was later discovered that he had torn an oblique muscle.
“The intense rehab program has begun with my medical team in Barcelona. I will do everything I can to be back competing as soon as possible. Unfortunately, I will not be able to compete in Madrid. I will keep you all updated when I have more news,” he wrote on Instagram.

Now the world no.22, Matteo played his last match on the 12th of April when he defeated world no.32 Francisco Cerundolo 5-7 7-6(1) 6-4 in the 2nd round in Monte-Carlo Rolex Masters (draw).
