Rafael Nadal gives horrible news to his fans, stating that he will not be able to compete in Madrid. Rafa got injured during the Australian Open, and his recovery is becoming a bit more difficult than anticipated. There are no obvious question marks about the participation of the King of Clay also in Rome and at the French Open.
This was his statement on social media.
“I have not communicated directly with you for a long time. It has been a few difficult weeks and months. As you know, I had a major injury in Australia, in the Psoas. In the beginning it had to be six to eight weeks of recovery period and we are already going for fourteen. The reality is that the situation is not what we would have expected. All medical indications have been followed, but somehow the evolution has not been what we were told in the beginning and we find ourselves in a situation that is difficult. The weeks are passing and I had the illusion of being able to play in tournaments that are the most important in my career like Monte Carlo, Barcelona, Madrid, Rome, Roland Garros and for now I have lost Monte Carlo and Barcelona. I will not be able to stay in Madrid unfortunately.
The injury remains unhealed and I can’t work what I need to compete. I was training, but now a few days ago we decided to change a bit of direction, do another treatment and see if things get better to try to get to what comes. I can’t give deadlines because if I knew, I would tell you, but I don’t know. This is the current situation.
I also want to send a special greeting to all the audience in Madrid and Spain because I will have missed the two tournaments that are played here at home. You all know what it means for me to play these tournaments and in this case in Madrid that I will not be able to play it with everything it has given me.
I have nothing but to try to be with the right attitude throughout this time, try to give me the opportunity to compete in some of the tournaments that are left of the season and I have no other option than to work and be in the right mindset.
A big greeting to you all and as soon as I have news, I’ll let you know. thank you!”
