Alex De Minaur wins Sydney

19-year-old Alex De Minaur is already an ATP champion!

The Australian has been playing fantastic tennis for the last 12 months to finally win a title after he lost 3 finals in 2018 (Sydney, Washington, and Milan).

This week Alex didn’t drop a single set, and he impressed on Saturday when he won the semifinal against Gilles Simon in the morning (6-3 6-2) before beating in the evening Andreas Seppi in the final 7-5 7-6(5).

The final against the Italian wasn’t easy also because the Australian had to recover from a break-down deficit in both sets. In the first, Alex dropped his serve immediately before breaking back in the 6th game (3-all); in the second set was broken again in the 7th game (3-4), but then he leveled immediately after (4-4). Things got complicated once more in the tiebreak when the Aussie had to recover a minibreak in 3 occasions, but eventually this was his night, and he finally conquered the title in his home city.

Alex was completely emotional during the speech to say

“It’s crazy that this actually happened. You guys don’t know much it means to me to do it in front of all you guys, in front of my home.

There’s nothing better than Sydney, is there?”
