Simona Halep to hire a coach in the near future

The world no.1 admits that it is not possible to stay coachless

Simona Halep press conference1

Simona Halep is about to start her Australian Open where she is seeded no.1.

During the pre-tournament interview, the Romanian admitted that she wanted to take it easy during her off-season to recover from the strong emotional and physical stress that she has accumulated in the last 2 seasons. For this reason, Simona explained that she didn’t want to hire a coach because she was not prepared to give her 100%.

The world no.1 looked indeed a bit rusty in her first match in Sydney where she crashed out in the opener against an in-form Ashleigh Barty (6-4 6-4).

I am going to hire a coach in the near future. HALEP

During the pre-season interview, Simona commented

“Last year I had about 10, 15 matches before Melbourne, now I have only one, which I lost it.

I took the risk of staying home a little bit longer. I rested because I felt like I’m exhausted after those tournaments and also the year that I had. I enjoyed the time home a lot. Now I feel refreshed to start the year, but still, I am a little bit back with everything, preparation, and matches.

But I don’t complain. Everything was how I wanted. So now I have just to put my head down and to go and work.

As I always say, at this level it is impossible without a coach. So maybe in the close future, I will have someone. But for the moment, I’m just by myself.”
