Simona Halep lost her 5th consecutive match since August 2018 after being defeated by Ashleigh Barty in straight sets. The Romanian sensation appeared not bothered at all by her latest setback because there is something that is great: she has no back pain at all!
The injury
Simona suffered from a nasty injury while back in September she was training with Petra Kvitova. The Romanian sensation tried to compete, but the pain was too much and eventually after losing 4 matches she had to pull the plug on a very successful 2018.
The world no.1 decided not to have an operation to fix her back and apparently that worked well since according to Simona she has no pain anymore.
What Halep said about her injury
During the press conference following her match against Barty, Simona commented
“No pain at all. I’m happy about that. It’s a great sign. I will recover now, and I will see how I wake up tomorrow morning.”
Talking about the match, Simona didn’t sound so depressed to add
“I think it was a great match after almost four months since I played one full match, at the U.S. Open. I think I played a good level of tennis. She played really well. Her slice was great today, so she deserved to win this match.
But also I was very close to winning. I had so many chances to break her and to take advantage, but I couldn’t.”
That’s great news for the world no.1 hoping she will be fully fit and competitive at the upcoming Australian Open.
