According to Daniil Medvedev, Alexander Zverev is not a close friend of either he or his wife. The Monte-Carlo Masters Round of 16 saw an exciting match between Medvedev and Zverev, which the Russian won 3-6, 7-5, 7-6(7) to go to the quarterfinals. After a heated argument, the two shook hands in a rather frigid manner at the net.
The German referred to the Russian as one of the world’s most unfair competitors following the match. The reporter claimed to have believed that Medvedev might be buddies with Zverev when he approached him for his opinion on the matter. The 27-year-old replied that, except from their junior year of high school, he had never been close friends with the German.
“So, yeah, it doesn’t disappoint me at all, but again, if in one week he’s going to continue saying, well, I’m going to going to come to him in the locker room and say, ‘Let’s discuss what’s wrong. Tell me, I’m gonna tell you, and maybe we never gonna speak again and we are gonna be enemies or whatever’. But at this moment I don’t care much,” said Medvedev.
In October 2020, Olya Sharypova first accused ex-boyfriend Alexander Zverev of abuse. (Zverev denied it; a later ATP investigation was inconclusive).

Now ranked no.5, the Russian played his last match on the 14th of April when he was overcome by world no.9 Holger Rune 6-3 6-4 in the quarter in Monte-Carlo Rolex Masters (draw).
This season Medvedev achieved a 31-4 record. The Russian has won 4 titles in 2023 in Rotterdam, Doha, Dubai and Miami. Medvedev reached the final in Indian Wells.
He is also scheduled to play in Madrid (Mutua Madrid Open) on the 26th of April and Rome (Internazionali BNL d’Italia) on the 10th of May.
