The ATP 500 in Barcelona lost the presence of yet another important player after the defection of Rafael Nadal. Soon after losing to Holger Rune in Monte Carlo, Daniil Medvedev withdrew from the tournament. Carlos Alcaraz is still leading the entry list.
Daniil Medvedev in 2023
Ranked no.5, the Russian played his last match on the 14th of April when he was defeated by world no.9 Holger Rune 6-3 6-4 in the quarter in Monte-Carlo Rolex Masters (draw).
During this season Daniil achieved a compiled 31-4 record. Medvedev clinched 4 titles in 2023 in Rotterdam, Doha, Dubai and Miami. Medvedev got to the final in Indian Wells.
He is also scheduled to play in Madrid (Mutua Madrid Open) on the 26th of April and Rome (Internazionali BNL d’Italia) on the 10th of May.
Rafael Nadal in 2023
At the moment ranked no.15, Nadal played his last match on the 18th of January when he surrendered to world no.52 Mackenzie Mcdonald 6-4 6-4 7-5 in the 2nd round of the Australian Open (draw).
Presently, during this year Rafael owns a 1-3 record.
He is also scheduled to play in Madrid (Mutua Madrid Open) on the 26th of April and Rome (Internazionali BNL d’Italia) on the 10th of May.
Daniil Medvedev and Rafael Nadal squared off 6 times. The head to head is 5-1 for Nadal. Before, the last time they locked horns, Rafael Nadal won 6-3 6-3 in the semifinal in Acapulco (Abierto Mexicano Telcel) in February 2022.

Carlos Alcaraz in 2023
At the moment ranked no.2, the Spaniard played his last match on the 31st of March when he lost to world no.8 Jannik Sinner 6-7(4) 6-4 6-2 in the semifinal in Miami (draw).
Until now, during this year the Spaniard has a 18-2 match record. Alcaraz has won 2 titles in 2023 in Buenos Aires and Indian Wells. The Spaniard was the runner-up in Rio de Janeiro.
