Daniil Medvedev appeared to ridicule Zverev’s handshake from their match on Thursday before making reference to the German’s critical remarks after suffering just his second defeat since January. Following Zverev’s statement that the 27-year-old was one of the “most unfair players in the world” this has happened.

What happened between Daniil Medvedev and Sascha Zverev

After defeating Zverev in a late-night match on Thursday, Medvedev tumbled out of the Monte Carlo Masters on Friday. On Thursday night, the Russian defeated the world No. 16, holding off two match points. Zverev was obviously upset and appeared to snub his rival during the handshake.

The German afterwards criticized Medvedev for leaving the game to use the restroom during a changeover. “He is one of the most unfair players in the world. I take fair play and sportsmanship very seriously. He does not,” said Zverev to Sky Sports Germany.

Despite losing his following match in Monte Carlo, Medvedev imitated Zverev’s handshake on Television in an apparent dig at the 25-year-old. The Dane then praised Medvedev’s recent performance, and the two then smiled and shook hands appropriately.
