Lorenzo Musetti seems to be quite against he idea of having a “super coach.” After beating Novak Djokovic in Monte Carlo, Lorenzo wrote polemically on the camera, “Supercoach?”
This was a clear answer to the remarks of some tennis experts and Italian legends such as Paolo Bertolucci and Diego Nargiso. Indeed, until Monte Carlo, Lorenzo’s performance has not been great in 2023.
The Super Coach idea
As reported by OA Sport, Bertolucci commented: “Honestly, I’ve already talked about it clearly. In my opinion, an external consultant is needed who can lend a hand. I never said that Santopadre and Tartarini, the coaches who manage them, should be replaced.
However, I don’t see why not think of a support, since even stronger tennis players have done it. Shall we talk about Djokovic with Ivanisevic? For me, it’s time to act and I hope they both know how to regain their trust.“
Nargiso added: “I have to say that in some ways, I see myself in Lorenzo and, luckily for him, he is definitely stronger than me. After winning Wimbledon junior, I too had to face problems in my growth, making mistakes which then prevented me from reaching certain levels.
Musetti starts from a different base, his repertoire is extraordinary, but I believe that right now the time has come for a change. I have great respect for Simone. I know him, and I think she has done an extraordinary job. However, I think that Lorenzo needs a figure who has a past of important victories behind him and who knows how to make him understand what it means to start under the thumbs in a tournament. Tartarini, I believe, cannot help him in this.”
Coach Simone Tartarini started working with @Lorenzo1Musetti when he was 8 years old.
