When Ayan Broomfield showed up for the final of the Fayez Sarofim & Co. U.S. Men’s Clay Court Championships in Houston, Frances Tiafoe was shocked to see her there. In the Houston final, Tiafoe defeated Tomas Martin Etcheverry in straight sets (7-6(1), 7-6). (6). He looked unbeatable the entire competition, going undefeated on his way to winning the trophy. Moreover, he won his first ATP tour-level championship since winning the 2018 Delray Beach Open.

Tiafoe thanked his coaching staff for helping him win during his acceptance speech. The 25-year-old talked about his girlfriend Broomfield, who had surprised him by showing up to the championship.

“I also want to thank my team, my girlfriend Ayan who I see in the crowd at 1-0. I was like, ‘I didn’t even know you were in Houston, I thought you were in LA,” he revealed.
