Karolina Pliskova starts the new season with a bang!

Ranked no.8, Karolina had to work hard to win the final in Brisbane against an inspired Lesya Tsurenko. Pliskova looked doomed when she was trailing 4-6 3-5. Eventually, she managed to find her way back to win the following 4 games and bring the encounter to the decider. At that point, the Ukraine imploded, and Pliskova won the match 4-6 7-5 6-2 after 2 hours and 12 minutes.

After the match, Karolina commented what happened to her to say

“I just felt somehow tired from the beginning of the day. I was missing my shots, just not feeling the timing perfectly. I was sleeping bad. So everything was somehow going the other way.

“When you’re able to turn these matches around, it gives you some extra and different confidence. So it’s not about only playing well. Sometimes you just feel horrible, and it’s going to happen in Grand Slams for sure because it’s for two weeks, so you cannot play amazing for two weeks.

I think I just dug deep today, and that’s important.”

This is Pliskova’s 12th career title. After this week, the Czech will go 1 place up in the rankings to be the world no.7.
