Julia Goerges wins the title in Auckland after ending the unexpected dominance of the 18-year-old Bianca Andreescu.
The teenager surprised the tennis community after storming in the final in Auckland coming straight from the qualifications. That means that Canadian had to win 7 consecutive matches and beat 2 former world no.1 on the way (Carolina Wozniacki and Venus Williams) before clashing against the German.

Bianca stunned Julia at the beginning of the match after grabbing a 4-0 lead before winning 6-2.
Goerges managed to engage in a proper dogfight in the second set finally. The German had to serve to remain in the match when she was 4-5 down, but eventually, that was the beginning of her triumph as she won 9 of the following 10 games before winning the match 2-6 7-5 6-1 after 1 hour and 45 minutes.

This is Julia’s 7th career title. Andreescu will make a considerable jump in the rankings as she is projected to gain 45 places to be the new world no.107. The hope is that the Canadian will maintain at least this level and her fantastic tennis full of variations. More to come.
