Bianca Andreescu stuns in Auckland

18-year-old Bianca Andreescu is having a stunning run in Auckland.

Ranked 152 in the world, the Canadian reaches the semifinal in New Zealand after winning 6 consecutive matches in 7 days defeating on the way 2 former world no.1: Caroline Wozniacki in the 2nd round (6-4 6-4) and Venus Williams in the quarters.

The match against Venus Williams

Bianca had a good start to be 1 break-up on 2 occasions in the opening set (3-2 and 4-3). The Canadian couldn’t maintain her lead, and later on, she imploded in the breaker to lose at 1.

This was the typical situation when the youngster gets so disappointed that she couldn’t win the set against the champion to cave in the next part of the match. That was not the case of Andreeescu that after being broken in the 1st game of the second set, conquered the following 11 games (!!!) to grab a strong 6-7 (1) 6-1 5-0 lead. However, Venus refused to bow to win the next 3 games (3-0), but that was too late, and Bianca conquered the match 6-7 (1) 6-1 6-3.
