Naomi Osaka reaches the semifinal in Brisbane.
The Japanese had to battle hard against the world no.11 Anastasija Sevastova. The Latvian had the best possible start after she broke Naomi in the very first game before breaking her again in the last game of the first set and win 6-3.
Things got much differently in the second set after Osaka’s coach, Sasha Baijin, exchanged a couple of words with the Japanese. Naomi conceded just 5 points to bagel (6-0) her opponent and bring the affair to the decider.
Osaka started strong also the 3rd set after she got an early break in the 3rd game (2-1) before consolidating with her serve (3-1). That break was enough for Naomi to win the match 3-6 6-0 6-4.
I tried to stay calm. OSAKA
After the match, Naomi commented
“She’s an amazing player. I was just trying to stay calm and tell myself that she is one of the best players in the world. I just had to stay in there and get a chance, and I think I did. I just rolled with it.”
