Djokovic survives Fucsovic in Doha

Nole had to use all his mental strength to win a tough match

Djokovic beats Fucsovic in Doha

Novak Djokovic was opposed to the world no.36 Marton Fucsovic in the 2nd round of the Qatar Open in Doha.

On paper, this was supposed to be a comfortable match for Novak Djokovic that has been playing fantastic tennis. However, the Hungarian played pretty well, and the world no.1 was struggling a lot especially in the first 2 sets to get close to an upset.

The match

The match was entirely even in the first set. The Serb was steady on his serve until the 9th game when he was broken out of the blue (4-5). The Hungarian didn’t miss his chance to hold the following game and win the opener 6-4.

Marton looked to be in a good position also in the second set, but it was the Serb to find the decisive break in the last game to win 6-4.

Things got Djokovic’s way in the third set. That was one of those situations when the underdog misses the chance to beat the “superstar” and then he or she implodes soon after. Nole got the full control of the decider to finally win the match 4-6 6-4 6-1 after 2 hours.

After the match, Nole commented

“For the first two sets, he was the better player. He played really well, smart, changing up the rhythm and the pace of the ball and moving me around.

I was kind of in a corner and I had to find my way and fight my way through.”
