At only 17 years of age, Amanda Anisimova ended her 2018 ranked no.96 after a rather surprising season especially after reaching the 4th round in Indian Wells where she defeated Petra Kvitova. Later in the year, the Amanda surprised again after reaching the final in Hiroshima coming straight from the qualifications winning 7 consecutive matches dropping just 1 set on the way.

Amanda ended her 2018 wth a flattering 24-10 win-loss record.

The American showed a fantastic dedication coupled with big talent to be considered by many “the new Sharapova.”

The teenager is already making her mark in the first appearance of the season in Auckland after she reached the quarters conceding just 8 games in 2 matches.

In the first round, Amanda won after Jana Cepelova withdrew when the American was leading 6-2 3-0. In the second round, Amanda had no problems to dismiss the world no.33 Barbora Strycova 6-3 6-3.

Amanda will face Viktoria Kuzmova for a place in the semifinal. They have never played each other so far.
