Ranked no.13, Aryna is coming from a fantastic season following her titles in New Haven and Wuhan. Seeded no.1 in Shenzhen, the Belarussian defeated Tatjana Maria 3-6 6-3 6-1 in the first round and Ekaterina Alexandrova 6-3 6-3 in the second round.
Sharapova
Ranked no.29, Maria is working hard to improve her rankings. After defeating Timea Bacsinszky 6-2 7-6 (3) in the first round, the Russian beauty got lucky in the 2nd after she was struggling against the 17-year-old Xin-Yu-Wang from China after the Chinese won the opening set 7-6 (4). Eventually, the teenager had to retire because of injury while Sharapova was leading 5-2 in the second set.
