Grigor Dimitrov looks better and better in 2019.
The Bulgarian sensation has recently stated that he is particularly happy with his pre-season and he is shrugging off a below-par 2018 with a couple of good performances in Brisbane.
Grigor defeated Yoshihito Nishioka 6-3 6-4 in the first round in Queensland to repeat himself with the same scoreline against the home favorite John Millman.
The match against Millman
Grigor won the decisive break of the 1st set in the 6th game at love (4-2) before winning the opener 6-3.
Things got a bit bumpy in the second set. Grigor seemed to have secured the match after conquering a 4-1 lead with a double break. All of a sudden, the Bulgarian started to doubt himself, and he was broken for 2 consecutive times. Millman made the scoreline even (4-4), and his tennis was getting better and better. However, Grigor kept his cool, and he broke John for the 4th time in the 9th game (5-4
) before holding his serve and win the match 6-3 6-4. The encounter ended after 1 hour and 28 minutes.Besides the last few games, Grigor appeared extremely solid, especially on the baseline. If he keeps this form, he will be one of the players to beat at the upcoming Australian Open.
Dimitrov will face either Kei Nishikori or Deni Kudla for a place in the semifinal.
