Carlos Alcaraz signing camera in Miami and his support for Fernando Alonso

Carlos Alcaraz wrote "33? --> Soon" on his post-match camera lens, sparking a Twitter firestorm.

Alcaraz Alonso

Carlos Alcaraz is extremely popular, even if he is ranked as the best tennis player in the world. Carlitos’ first thought after overcoming Tommy Paul 6-4, 6-4 to go to the Miami Open quarterfinals, a tennis competition staged within an NFL stadium that is situated inside a Formula 1 track.

Alcaraz reached for a marker to sign the champions’ customary post-game camera lens, but instead of signing, he scribbled two words that sparked a firestorm on Spanish Twitter on Tuesday afternoon: “33? –> Soon”

Alonso replied: “Someone lock this guy up!!! You’re a phenomenon! Come on!!!”

Nevertheless, back home, Spanish fans soon took Alcaraz’s tweet as a homage to two-time Formula 1 champion Fernando Alonso. The 41-year-old driver, who has 32 Grand Prix victories to his credit, stunned spectators by finishing on the podium in both of the season’s opening two races. This weekend’s start of round 3 in Australia has heightened fan anticipation for a potential 33rd victory.
