Bianca Andreescu, a former US Open winner, was brought off the court in a wheelchair on Monday night at the Miami Open after sustaining what can only be described as a horrific injury. Andreescu walked approaching a ball during a rally while trailing Ekaterina Alexandrova by one set but led the second 2-0 when she abruptly dropped to the court while still gripping her leg and ankle. The 22-year-response old’s made it instantly clear that this was a severe situation.
Before Andreescu was carried off the court, everyone on the court, including the chair umpire, Alexandrova, and tournament officials, came over with ice, towels, and their support. The tragedy was made worse by Andreescu’s relatives, who were in the audience and were visibly upset.
Bianca’s career has been badly affected by all sorts of injuries.
