Emma Raducanu and Bianca Andreescu have had very similar career trajectories thus far, and the former hopes that they can “help each other out.” Andreescu had a breakthrough year in 2019, winning the Indian Wells Open and the Canadian Open before becoming the first Canadian to win a Grand Slam at the age of just 19 by defeating Serena Williams in the US Open final.
She struggled with a number of injuries during the course of the following two years, and the Covid-19 pandemic also caused chaos. After stumbling to outside the top 40 in 2022 after reaching a career-high No. 4 in 2019, Andreescu has since found her form and is back up at No. 31.
Emma Raducanu’s struggle
Raducanu made her breakthrough at Wimbledon in 2021 by making it to the fourth round. She later went on to win the US Open without dropping a set, making history by becoming the first qualifier to win a major. But she suffered with form and injuries last year, and so far in 2023, it has been the same. As a result, her first full season on the WTA Tour didn’t go well.
Andreescu won in a three-set encounter in the first round of the Miami Open last week against Emma. LAter, Andreescu said: “I would love to talk to her about what happened after US Open with all the success, all the media, stuff like that, how she dealt with it, how I dealt with it, how we can maybe help each other in that way.
“Also, I know that we both haven’t been having, I guess, results we wanted. I don’t want to speak on behalf of her, but I’m sure she wants to do better than she is, just kind of help each other out in that sense. How can we get better, basically?”
