Chris Evert juxtaposed the extremely different approaches Raducanu and Rybakina took to winning their maiden grand slam title, saying that it all came down to their personalities.
After Raducanu’s US Open victory, the British player rose to international superstardom. Brands competed over her, and she was quite busy with numerous endorsement deals. Despite Wimbledon being the most lucrative grand slam event, Rybakina hasn’t truly experienced this. That partly results from Kazakhstani media not having the same global influence as British media, but it also has to do with her personality, which is far more low-key.
Chris commented: “I don’t think her [Rybakina’s] personality was one that she took advantage of after winning Wimbledon to the extent that other players have in the past with appearances and magazine covers and endorsements and being on talk shows.
I think she lives a very quiet life and she is very happy that way. She doesn’t want to get out of her bubble. That’s her prerogative. With her personality, I think that she doesn’t demand attention, and that is why you don’t see her out there like you saw maybe Emma Raducanu or you saw other players after they have won majors.”
