SHOULDER INJURY. Why Stefanos Tsitsipas blames the tennis balls

Tsitsipas' shoulder injury is attributed to ATP Tour ball changes, which Daniil Medvedev blamed for wrist problems in Australia.

Stefanos Tsitsipas

Stefanos Tsitsipas has been struggling for some time with a shoulder injury. The shoulder injury Stefanos Tsitsipas suffered at the beginning of the 2023 season is attributed by the Greek player to the ATP Tour’s frequent ball changes. Tsitsipas made it to the Australian Open final but also sustained a shoulder injury. Daniil Medvedev expressed his disapproval of the new ATP Tour balls in late February, saying they were to blame for the wrist problems he had in Australia.

During a recent interview with SDNA, Stefanos commented: “I think the biggest issue this year was the change in balls and that was an issue that has been discussed among the players. Balls need to stay the same in most tournaments and especially on hard surfaces. This benefits us all and protects players from injury.

I have had comments from other players about the balls at the beginning of the year and that they had a significant impact on the shoulders, wrists, and arm in general. I think that’s where my injury comes from.”
