“Kyrgios here and Kyrgios there…” this is what is happening in tennis Australia and Hewitt disagrees with that.

Nick Kyrgios had a great 2014 to finish the year as world no.52 after winning 3 challengers and reaching the quarters in Wimbledon. After that Nick has been hitting all sorts of headlines and he has even won the prestigious Newcombe Medal few days ago. Besides his great results, Nick’s image has been also “enhanced” by his lovely and exuberant persona that makes him a “very attractive” tennis player for everybody.

Hewitt: It’s not only about Nick

Former world no.1 Lleyton Hewitt says that there is too much attention on Nick and there are also some other players that are very interesting for the future of Tennis Australia.

“There’s a few of them. I wouldn’t rule out Bernie just yet. I was impressed how well he played at Wimbledon against Tomas Berdych in the second round there, considering how underdone he was, so I think his hips are probably getting a little bit better.

Thanasi’s another one on the rise, as well, so right at the moment there’s those three guys and then you’ve got Jasika as well, coming up, so the future’s promising.”

Kokkinakis is now world no.150 (career high) while Tomic is now ranked no.56 after having crashed out the top100 at the end of June. Bernard has won the ATP250 in Bogota this year and he has won semifinal in Stockholm after a great run.
