Nice touch from Maria Sharapova. The world no.2 surprised one of her biggest fans at the IMG Academy with an unexpected visit.
10-year-old Sunny Logan has been playing since the age of 5 and she has recently overcome a rare cancer (Burkitt’s lymphoma) with the help of the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis.
Sunny has managed to get back to the practice court (where else?) to have an amazing experience to say “We had been talking about her [Sharapova] all day, she was on the hall of fame board, and they had pictures of her everywhere. I was hitting some serves and then I turn around, and there she is. And I was just speechless. I did not know what to do.”
When Maria entered the court she said “Is this Sunny?” I heard there’s this incredible tennis player playing on center court here. I’m Maria. It’s very nice to meet you. Can I get a hug?”
Great touch!… and what a forehand from Sunny!!!
Tune in tomorrow at 8am to NBC’s The Today Show to meet my amazing new friend #StJudes #Sunny pic.twitter.com/lTpubL4hOa
