Roger Federer is rumored to be back on clay in 2019.
The Swiss sensation has skipped the last 3 years on clay. In 2016, he couldn’t compete after he had a knee operation. In 2017 and 2018, Roger decided not to play in order to get fresh to the short grass season and the North American swing. This decision played well in 2017, but in 2018 the world no.3 looked a bit rusty after the long pause. Therefore, Roger is now expected to compete on the dirt if he will not pick any injury after Indian Wells and Miami.
Which tournaments will Federer play on clay?
According to the Express, Roger should play either Barcelona or Rome before finally being back at the Roland Garros.
What about the grass season?
If Roger plays the Roland Garros, he is expected to miss Stuttgart where he is the defending champion to try instead to win his 10th title in Halle and the 9th in Wimbledon.
Why Federer should play the French Open. ANNACONE
Federer’s ex-coach Paul Annacone commented
“I won’t be surprised at all if he plays at Roland Garros. He loves Paris, and he hasn’t played the last couple of years.
There’s no reason he can’t do well there, again it’s about his schedule. Where will he take a break if he plays there?”
