4 reasons why Nadal will not play the Davis Cup

Rafael Nadal is getting older and wiser and he is looking at his current situation with a broader perspective.

The Spanish Legend has been sidelined for a big chunk of the season by various injuries and he will try to stage another comeback in 2015, but he needs to be careful about his schedules.

Why Rafa may not play

Rafa has won 4 Davis Cup (2004, 2008, 2009, 2011) and he is always keen on defending the colors of his nation, but there will be a strong possibility he won’t play the competition in 2015. Let’s see why.

The first reason is that Rafa and Uncle Toni are not having a great moment with the Spanish Federation  because of the controversial appointment of Gala Leon as the new Davis Cup captain.  After so many sour communicates, we can’t see them working together.

The second reason is that the King of Clay is trying to recover from his multiple injuries and he will try to do everything he can to avoid some more strain on his body.

The third reason is that Spain in 2015 will not be part of the World Group (let’s say the Davis Cup main draw), but it will play a “low ranked team” in the play-off to qualify for the 2016 World Group. So it is likely that Rafa won’t risk his fitness while there are still many Spanish players that can win that tie.

Finally, the Play-Off will be played in July after Wimbledon and we all know that Rafa doesn’t like to suddenly change the surface he is playing, he is usually unfit after the Championship and he loves to spend his vacations in Mallorca in that period.

Nadal: I still do not know if will play

Rafa has recently commented “To me, represent Spain has always been a mean of great honor. But I am no longer 20, I am 28 now and that is reality. There should be a new generation kicking in to take the place of those who made history over the past decade or so.

We faced difficulties in the past, but always came out on top. It is normal to have more physical issues growing older. If I will play in the Davis Cup for the play-offs in July? I don’t know, we are still in November and I haven’t yet started practicing again”.

We still hope to see the King of Clay in full steam next season.
