Fantastic news for the tennis fans in Auckland as Amanda Anisimova will join the ASB Classic.

Currently ranked 96, the 17-year-old is widely considered as one of the most exciting prospects in women tennis. Earlier this year when she was just 16, she reached the 4th round in Indian Wells after upsetting Petra Kvitova.

Later on, in September, Amanda reached the final in Hiroshima coming straight from he qualifications after 7 matches in 7 days.

From the organization.

ASB Classic director Karl Budge commented

“We have a pretty good record in recent years, identifying the next wave of stars. Jelena Ostapenko, Sloane Stephens and recently Naomi Osaka have all come to Auckland early in their careers, before going on to Grand Slam success.”

“Given Amanda is still only 17 years old, she is well ahead of where those three girls were at the same time of their careers. To be shocking multiple Grand Slam champions and reaching finals bodes incredibly well for the future.”

The tournament will commence on the 29 of December to end the 6th of January.
