Daniil Medvedev threatened to "pee slowly" during a toilet break, leading to his victory in Indian Wells.

Daniil Medvedev will face Alexander Zverev in a finger-licking match in Indian Wells. However, the Russian player has already hit the headlines for a weird episode in the desert. Before a toilet break mid-match at the Indian Wells on Sunday, Daniil Medvedev yelled at the umpire that he would “pee slowly” and threatened to do so. In the third round of the competition, Ilya Ivashka was defeated by Medvedev 6-2 3-6 6-1, extending his victory streak in California.

As he spoke to umpire Mohamed Lahyani at the conclusion of the second set, Medvedev’s displeasure with the pace of the court in California came to a head. Daniil said: “I’m gonna pee as slow as this court is. So you can take 25 minutes. The court is slow so I go slow; I take my time.”

Lahyani replied: “You have to accept this. You’re professional.” Then the former world no.1 replied: “I don’t accept this. They say on the fact sheet this is hard courts. This is not hard courts.”
