Roger Federer is always at the centre of the highlights, but he had to admit that this time it was on Stan.
Wawrinka pushing Federer to play…
Stan has always been pushing Roger for playing the Davis Cup. The Maestro typically has a very busy agenda during a season and he often struggles to find a week here and there for the Davis Cup. Eventually if you get to the final you need to play 4 times and that means giving up 1 month for the cause (but it’s a good cause!).
Stan in the past has already criticized Roger for not playing the Davis Cup (see article) and he really tried hard to make him come on board. Eventually he made it… then “Stanimal” had also to keep up with expectations.
… and coming to the party in the final
Stan was also instrumental in the final. Roger was wobbling and not comfortable with his back, but Stan’s great performance vs. Tsonga and his solid tennis in doubles put Roger in the right frame of mind to play (and trash) Gasquet in the decisive single.
From Roger
Soon after his decisive victory Roger immediately admitted that it was Stan to give him the opportunity to win that match and he was the one to work tough on the target.
It’s love again?
