Emma Raducanu still struggling with wrist injury ahead of clashing vs. Haddad Maia in Indian Wells

Emma Raducanu reached the 3rd round in Indian Wells.

Emma Raducanu

Emma Raducanu reached the 3rd round in Indian Wells before facing Beatriz Haddad Maia in the following match. The 20-year-old overcame world No. 21 Magda Linette, her highest-ranked adversary since winning the 2021 US Open, 7-6 (7-3) 6-2.

The injuries

Raducanu fell from world No. 10 in July 2022 to world No. 77 this week as a result of an apparently never-ending string of injuries and illnesses after her stunning grand slam victory. Emma had to cut short her 2022 season because of a wrist injury. Unfortunately, she has not fully recovered from that.

“I had to dig really deep against Magda because her level was really high,” Raducanu told the BBC. “The wrist isn’t completely pain-free. But I gritted my teeth a little bit, and it’s good to still be able to win matches at this level despite the challenges I’ve had over the past few weeks.”
